"First Mate" Nate worked tirelessly during the first 6 years of the Blackbeard Festival to help create the premiere event it has become today. Even after he left the shores of Hampton to become the Dockmaster of Riverwalk Landing in Yorktown, Virginia, he continued to be a friend and supporter of the Crew.
Captain Hiott, "Cap", was the first Master of the Kalmar Nyckel, The Tall Ship of Delaware. For three years he brought the ship and his crew to Hampton for the Blackbeard Festival. His knowledge of the sea and ships was a blessing to all who knew him for he shared it willingly.
Captain Briggs was the heart of the sea in Hampton Roads for as long as any can remember. A driving force in all maritime activities in the area including Harborfest and The Great Chesapeake Bay Schooner Race, he spoke for so many mariners during his time. His innovative "Tugantine" can still be seen at area festivals each year.
David's time as a member of Blackbeard's Crew was sadly brief. After following the activities of the Crew for several years he finally approached us about membership. In just a few short months, David endeared himself to those around him and embraced his new found family. He fashioned the original coins that all full members of the Crew receive upon admittance.
